Made in Chelsea: It ain't no TOWIE!

Whoever thought featuring a load of posh totty on a TV programme, billed as the anti-TOWIE, clearly doesn't have a clue.

By the third ad break I was looking desperately for something else to watch- Made in Chelsea was just blah. Literally, all fur coats and no, er substance!

The characters were all thoroughly un-likeable and although Ollie does have an uncanny knack of behaving like a posh Joey Essex, even that couldn’t save the first episode.

It could get better, but would you actually care? I will compare it to TOWIE because even E4 were shameless in the fact that they were copying this formula.

You care about Arg breaking Lydia ’s heart, you totally want Lauren to bin Mark and you absolutely think ‘Reem’ should be put in the Oxford Dictionary.

Who can honestly remember anyone’s name or storyline last night from Chelsea? My only LOL moment came when Ollie tried to deflect a relationship question by saying he loved his date’s eyebrows.

I can’t believe any of the girls are willing to be seen with men who have better hair than they do! Seriously, they were rocking some seriously long, conditioned barnets- maybe that is indeed the way in Chelsea .

As for the self absorbed twit who said Topshop was unacceptable, as was any form of high-street clothing… prepare to be loathed from here on out.

Grr! I was so unbelievably frustrated and offended by last night’s episode and yet I'm pretty certain that was not the reaction E4 were hoping for.

I think they thought the tongue-in-cheek formula of Essex would work and yet you just ended up not giving a toss about any of them, while feeling intensely jealous of their lifestyle.

Will I watch next week? Well, we’ll see if I calm down between now and then me thinks...

The Inbetweeners: Finale Fashion

Well it had to come to an end at some point. In fact I'd been bracing myself for this event for the past six weeks... the end of The Inbetweeners. Sniff.

Ok, so they'll be back next year, after possibly the funniest six episodes to date. Three seasons in and they're still absolutely hilarious. Rude, crude and so so realistic it just makes you laugh until it hurts.

But there has been a running theme with this latest series, covered on this very blog three times- Simon and his ritual weekly humiliation.

He's always had the makings of a true comedy genius- Spewing all over Carli's brother in season one, stripping off on a boat for series two and well, take your pick in series three-although his momentous 'slapping' incident in Warwick, when something refused to work, seems to stand out in my mind!

Last night saw the boys go camping to send Simon off in style, because his dad, being the selfish bugger he is, was moving the whole family to Swansea.

Now I've mentioned Simon's tantrums before, but this was a classic. Combine that with his midnight visit to Carli's brother's bedroom and his breakdown when the car went into the river, and you have the most memorable finale ever.

I loved that this episode saw Simon's crazy hair mentioned again by the gang, after very early on they compared it, quite accurately, to the Statue of Liberty.

Will's camping outfit of a checked shirt and puffa jacket was suitably geeky, while Neil and Jay once again provided excellent chav support in hoodies and jeans.

So long boys, I'll miss you...and your misguided views on life.

Last Night's TV Fashion: Ugly Betty

I wasn’t entirely surprised when this show was axed in the US- the third season lost my interest mid way through, and for someone who was an avid Betty fan before- that signalled the end for me.

Anyway, while Betty is still in business last night’s E4 episode was promising; Justin in Gucci, Betty claiming to be ‘tame’ in head to toe orange, Hilda’s hair pieces getting bigger and Marc just being as fabulous and flamboyant as ever.

Daniel even made an appearance and promptly informed Betty about an office blog detailing her wardrobe choices over the past three years, Genius.

I know Betty is about to get the mother of all makeovers by the end of the season (I’ve seen the US spoilers dontcha know!) so I’ll have to make the most of B’s crazy outfits for the next few weeks.

Last night’s offering certainly had retro Betty in mind- socks and sandals, leopard print, bright belts, clashing prints and a gorgeous red patent Mac laptop case. Since when did Betty get so chic?!

Cute handbags galore showed the new Betty starting to emerge and the whole caterpillar butterfly metaphor wasn’t lost on me either….although I did wish it wasn’t so blatant.

Meegan looks set to be Betty’s new nemesis in season four, while Matt (seen a handful of times during my brief season three dalliance) is sure to forgive Betty isn’t he?

While Wilhelmina works out some daughter issues, Marc continues to hate Betty- to be fair she did poison him with walnuts- and Clare has clearly been caught in the wind with that crazy hair do.

Then there’s Amanda who was suffering some shiny face issues last night, but Becky Newton is as OTT as ever- this is a character who I will never get bored of.

Bring on episode two- bigger, better and more Betty please!

I'm hearing we may be seeing an altogether more fashion conscious Betty in the fourth and final series. Hmmm, interesting.

Has she sold her soul for those Prada pumps or merely had a bit of a style-over to fit in with her new high flying job?
