Poriot: Hallowe'en Fashion

I know it’s not cool. I’m the first to admit that, but I love Poirot. He’s just the most incredible creation on TV- so self important, yet so lovable.

Anyway, it’s been a while since I’ve had a new mystery to pour over (the box set is getting a little worn now) so thankfully ITV answered my cry with a Halloween special aired last Wednesday.

Due to scheduling conflicts, what with The Apprentice, Gossip Girl and Ugly Betty all airing around this time, it was recorded for my viewing pleasure to watch this weekend.

Gothic fashion at its best I would say. Poirot once again solved a tragic triple murder, well four if you’re going to be finickity about it, while looking fab in patent leather boots.

You see Poirot can’t wear anything other than the best, even when he can’t walk in them, he insisted on wearing said shoes to roam around looking for clues.

The result was tremendously funny and it reminded me how feminine he has always been. We squeezed ourselves into girdles, corsets and high heels, while he wears uncomfortable stiff collars and boots to maintain his image.

I’ve often thought I was born in the wrong era; everyone was so glamorous in the 30s and 40s. Everyone wore a hat, had perfectly quaffed hair and matching red nails and lips were considered essential day wear, whereas today the norm is wandering around supermarkets in PJs...

Here’s to the next Poirot mystery to grace our screens, and with yet more big names featuring it is sure to whip up a vintage fashion frenzy!
