I know it’s not cool. I’m the first to admit that, but I love Poirot. He’s just the most incredible creation on TV- so self important, yet so lovable.
Anyway, it’s been a while since I’ve had a new mystery to pour over (the box set is getting a little worn now) so thankfully ITV answered my cry with a Halloween special aired last Wednesday.
Due to scheduling conflicts, what with The Apprentice, Gossip Girl and Ugly Betty all airing around this time, it was recorded for my viewing pleasure to watch this weekend.
Gothic fashion at its best I would say. Poirot once again solved a tragic triple murder, well four if you’re going to be finickity about it, while looking fab in patent leather boots.
You see Poirot can’t wear anything other than the best, even when he can’t walk in them, he insisted on wearing said shoes to roam around looking for clues.
The result was tremendously funny and it reminded me how feminine he has always been. We squeezed ourselves into girdles, corsets and high heels, while he wears uncomfortable stiff collars and boots to maintain his image.
I’ve often thought I was born in the wrong era; everyone was so glamorous in the 30s and 40s. Everyone wore a hat, had perfectly quaffed hair and matching red nails and lips were considered essential day wear, whereas today the norm is wandering around supermarkets in PJs...
Here’s to the next Poirot mystery to grace our screens, and with yet more big names featuring it is sure to whip up a vintage fashion frenzy!

Halloween X Factor Fashion!

What a fright the X Factor gave me last night, and that was just the contestants and their song choices.
Thriller it was not, Like a bat out of hell? More like, I'm in hell- why can't Louis get it right with Wagner?!
That said, Rebecca as always was a triumph, even if the stylists made her look like a Spanish dancer in her lace and velvet dress. I'll forgive that, because she would look stunning in a bin bag.
As would Cheryl Cole, which is why I presume she's given up on being edgy now and just sticks to being pretty. Seriously, the same hair, make-up and jewellery as last week is just dull.
Dannii on the other hand, is turning out to be the STYLE queen of the show with a quiff so high, Jedward must of wondered who had stolen their hairspray. She's innovative, cool and different each week, which is tres refreshing.
What was also great last night was seeing Cher in a whole new light. No gangster swagga, just her in a Morticia style dress, complete with massive eyelashes singing a song which gave me goosebumps.
Katie, however gave me chills for all the wrong reasons. Dear lord what were they thinking with the cloud hair and eyelashes so big you couldn't even see her eyes. That was a hell of a lot of white eyeliner to contend with, and teamed with a so-so song, I think she could be in trouble this week.
Same with Aiden and his increasingly scary singing style. He's too intense now to enjoy his performances, but the guyliner was uber hot. He'll get the female vote, no worries there.
Just like One Direction, who seem to get stronger each week and I have to admit, I'm becoming a big fan, despite me writing them off at the beginning. What do you know, the dudes can really sing!
Not sure about the pink eyeliner and strange claw marks on the neck though, it was like they'd gone to town on Katie and had no creativity left for the boys! Tut tut.
Matt too, didn't seem to have had much done to him for Halloween either and his choice of song left me with a cushion over my eyes. He's still the fave to win though, so chances are he'll sail through once again this week.
I'm not sure the same can be said for Trayc though, why she sung that song was beyond me. But finally, after four weeks they got her styling right- she's a curvy lady and to put her in skin tight frocks was a big mistake.
That red dress last night with vampy black lips however, was stunning and people finally saw how gorge she was! That said I think she could be in trouble tonight as well if people just don't get her...
Paige may struggle too, even though Back to Black was a clever song choice for this soulful and Diva-ish contestant. He's likeable, can sing, but will I think be eclipsed each week by the stronger competition.
Lastly, Belle Amie seem to be sinking each week in my eyes. Dannii was right, the vocals were off and it was an odd choice of song I think. I loved the hair and make-up, but four practically identical white dresses? Come on, think a bit outside the box why don't you?!
Giving Mary horns though, I'll admit she looked lovely and the styling team did their job well. Great song choice and still one of my faves to go all the way. She's got Tesco behind her for goodness sake and boy can she sing.
What did you think of last night's show? Who will go and who will stay... you decide!
