BGT Live Show 1: A Bit Dull?!

BGT: Ashleigh & Pudsey Awww!!!

So BGT kicked off last night with the live shows, but something felt a little flat. Simon wasn't himself (perhaps the revelations of the past few weeks have really taken their toll?) Alesha was so OTT, Amanda took on the role of resident meany and David wasn't as funny as he had been at the auditions.

A few bad jokes aimed at Simon courtesy of Amanda and David seemed to put Mr Cowell in such a bad mood- so much so, he didn't even stay for the BGMT show. It wasn't expanded upon as to why he rushed off, but could this have been the reason?

Then there were the acts themselves. I was SO bored with most of them last night. United We Stand- a hot favourite for the finals chose the most uninspiring music to dance to, which was so dull they got two buzzers in under a minute.

Zipparah ‘Mr Zip’ Tafari came bounding onto stage singing a beefed up rendition of THAT song, which was fun, but not world changing. Same with the Jive Aces- great guys, really talented but just 'meh' on the night where it really mattered.

Lauren Thalia was the first point of the evening where I felt like the show was worth watching, a trend which continued with The Mend, Ashleigh & Pudsy and Only Boys Allowed.

I'm really glad Pudsy got through because he is the most talented dog we've ever seen on the show, but a lot of people were split on who should get the second place.

Being Welsh, of course I was rooting for the male voice choir, but other people were really taken with the boy band from Manchester.

It's almost a given they will go through on the wild card option, but we do still have four more nights to go and anything can happen.

Tonight I'm praying for a more interesting show, better dress choices from Alesha & Amanda, a happier Simon and a funnier David.

Oh and most of all, can whoever did Amanda's and Alesha's nails please remove the horrendous talons before tonight's show? They were scaring little children!

BGT: Shock Result!

Britain's Got Talent Final: Jai vs Ronan

I've missed most of this week's live semi-finals, mainly through boredom and partly through better things to do, I must confess.

This year has been very so-so, with no stand out acts and no Su-Bo's to carry it through.

Don't get me wrong, there has been some talent and the final was quite exciting, because I genuinely didn't know which way it was going to go.

Ronan was the obvious fave by the end of the show, Jai was definitely in with a shot, as were New Bounce and even crazy Jean could have snatched victory with the way things were going.

In the end it was a shock that Jai triumphed over cute little teary Ronan. Normally I can't stand child acts, but I really warmed to him and was very impressed with how professional he was when he didn't win.

No doubt he will do well from this, as will New Bounce- it really was all about the singers in the end. Although Paul and his magic piano fingers were amazing; I hope he makes it too, otherwise it will be such a waste of talent.

Until next year...

Britain's Got Talent is back!

Britain's Got Talent 2011

I didn't think it would work without Simon Cowell, but somehow The Hoff and Michael McIntyre managed to fill the media mogul's shoes with general wit and off the wall humour.

I'm not saying it always worked, but alongside Amanda Holden- who got hilariously mistaken for Joanna Lumley at one point- the trio were on the hole, pretty well matched.

So, with a new judging panel in place how would this year's hopefuls fare? Oh dear god is all I have to say about that. I spent most of the hour and a half hiding behind my cushion, while my boyf chuckled hilariously.

See, he can handle social humiliation. Me, well it just makes me squirm. The crazy lady who told stand up in her PJS, the man who played the electric keyboard painted head to toe in gold paint, oh and the financial advisor who pretended to be a seal were just some of the acts who had me sinking down my sofa.

Thank god for the rags-to-riches story that came near the end; the Su-Bo of 2011 possibly- a very talented guitarist/vocalist named Michael Collings.

Already a YouTube hit, he's suddenly become an overnight sensation thanks to looking like a total doss, but actually being uber talented with what appears to be a heart of gold. Ahh.

Although he was great to watch and I really hope he goes far, my favourite act of the night had to be the couple who played the hand bells to the Titanic theme.

Gay and Alan Cooper look completely barmy, but are actually are pretty lovely people and more importantly, know how to handle their bells.

I hope they make it to the semi finals, if only so Simon can have his say... now that would be worth watching!

Susan Boyle: Style Icon!

Susan Boyle on Piers Morgan's Life Stories. Copyright ITV

I got a shock on Saturday night when I watched Piers Morgan's Life Stories- it featured none other than Susan Boyle, aka the Hairy Angel.

Only, she wasn't hairy. She was radiant in a fitted pink dress, perfectly quaffed hair and subtle make-up. Gone were the bushy eyebrows, the crazy fashion sense and the home dyed hair.

In her place was a rather nice woman who giggled throughout, made the audience laugh and set the record straight about her 'mad' antics.

Her rise to fame hasn't been of much interest to me, to my mum maybe, but me- well I watched her audition and followed her to the final, but then lost interest. Every other person in the world though, well they just lapped her up.

She appeared on Oprah, sang for the Pope and had the biggest selling album of 2009. Not bad for someone who was nearly laughed off stage at the BGT auditions.

Anyway, I watched it not really caring too much about her story and found myself admiring her style and her poise.

Like Cheryl Cole a few weeks ago, she knew where to be guarded when difficult questions came her way, and like Chezza no doubt certain people will be lapping up her style from that hour long show.

Susan Boyle Christmas No.1 has quite a nice ring to it don't you think? Either way, Simon Cowell's not going to risk another fiasco like last year is he? X Factor or Susan, he's on to a winner here...
