I don't know how she does it... Review

SJP in 'I don't know how she does it'

I've been hearing about this movie for the past few months, thanks to numerous articles and promotional features, so to actually go and see it last night felt a bit like an anti-climax.

And that's before I even saw it, because quite honestly I could have waited for it to come out on DVD.

Yes, SJP is back and in a role we haven't really seen her tackle before- but and here's the but- it's the same narrative format as Sex and the City and SJP still has numerous designer clothes and handbags, albeit some of them are covered in spit up.

There were some funny moments, coming mainly from SJP's character Kate's assistant, Momo and her best friend played by the gorgeous Christina Hendricks.

Kate herself does get some humorous moments, as we all know SJP can do comedy (Sex and the City 2 anyone?!) but mainly it falls a bit flat, where it really should succeed.

The idea of whether women can have it all has been explored many times before, but this should have been a movie which updated it for the 21st century and gave us a more realistic heroine.

It's hard to really feel for Kate with her supporting husband and nanny, while holding down a highly paid job in the city where she is respected and admired... yep, so far feeling tones of sympathy.

There were some moments of joy however; when Kate is in full flow describing the thrills of motherhood, only to realise half way through that she has forgotten to pick up her children for example, is very funny and did manage to make me laugh.

The fashion too is quite nice, but it was the bag candy that really caught my eye- how many Mulberry Alexa's did that woman need?! I counted three, but I could have been blindsided by camera angles!

Never would you have seen Mulberry on Carrie and somehow it didn't really suit SJP in this role either- I think a classic LV epi leather Alma would have been much more appropriate.

Still, I'm sure it will prove quite a success- maybe not critically but comercially certainly, as lots of people will be able to identify at least a little bit with Kate.

And lets face it, anything with SJP is cinema gold for us girlies...
