Unusual Fashion Icon: Helena Bonham Carter
Now I may be the only one, but I love Helena Bonham Carter and her crazy (yes that is the only word to describe it) style.
She is the only Brit who doesn't give a toss how she looks in everyday life, on a movie set or on the red carpet, and that is a welcome change from some celebs and their- 'Oh I just threw this ball gown on by chance and look... there's a photographer outside my home'- kind of attitude.
HBC is quirky, unique and a car crash of couture on most occasions, but that's what makes her exciting to look at. In my mind, she's a mixture of Johnny Depp's eccentricity (probably obtained from all their film collaborations together) and Vivienne Westwood's eclectic style.
It helps of course that Helena is partner to one of Hollywood's self-confessed oddballs- the amazing Tim Burton- as well, because together on a red carpet they're practically gothic royalty.
Take last night's TV BAFTA's for instance. Plenty of pretty frocks (Amanda Holden) vintage finds (Lacey Turner in a gorgeous fishtail gown) and the train wreck that is Jordan graced the stage, but it was HBC that turned heads- albeit for the wrong reasons!
Style editors will undoubtedly proclaim her worst dressed and ordinary folk will almost certainly gasp- 'Did she get dressed in the dark?' but me, well I just thought, 'fabulous darling!'
A red satin dress, complete with a black suspender belt, mini top hat and a pair of purple Ozzy Osbourne- inspired shades. Genius really.
Personally I don't think anything can top her Alice in Wonderland look though- that bulbous head, heart shaped pout and frizzy red hair should be made mandatory for all celebs. Oh how I'd laugh if that became reality...
